Christina Gail Smith, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 39. Born January 4, 1985, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Mitchell and Gail Smith, Christy was a light to everyone who knew her—full of joy, laughter, and sparkle.
A 2003 graduate of Sheldon High School, Christy was actively involved in band, choir, theater, and speech club cultivating a love for the arts that would shine throughout her life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Trinity Bible College in 2007 and later went on to receive her Master’s degree in Education from Evangel University in 2013. Christy dedicated more than 16 years to teaching, sharing her passion and creativity with each and every student she taught. Most recently, she worked at Hollister Early Learning Center, where her Kindergarten classroom was a place of fun, discovery, and warmth.
Known for her vibrant personality and colorful fashion sense, Christy lived life on her terms, more of a “messy squiggle” than a straight line. She was famous for her playful nails and hair, fancy shoes, and unique outfits (including the occasional tutu), always brightening the room with her sense of style and genuine love for people.
Christy’s heart overflowed with love for her family and friends. She adored being “Titi” to her niece Lydia and nephew Elijah. Her beloved Ollie was her constant companion. Christy’s adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, and she treasured every moment, whether on a mission trip or family vacation.
Her strong faith was at the center of her life, leading to her active service in churches wherever she called home.
Christy is survived by her parents, brother Bob (Sharon), sister Caitie, and niece and nephew, Lydia and Elijah.
