Charles Anderson Harper, age 92 of Springfield, died September 13, 2023. He was born October 13, 1930 in Idalia, Missouri, the son of Fred and Verdia (Evans) Harper.
Charles was married to Margaret Ann Atnip on May 19, 1951. They were blessed with three daughters (including a set of twins) and a son.
Charles served his country in the U.S. Army as an armored vehicle operator and a quad 50 caliber machine gun operator.
After leaving the military, Charles worked at McDonald Aircraft plant in St. Louis where the first space capsule was made (Project Mercury). After eight years he then worked at Colorado State University, followed by 18 years at Missouri State University.
Charles was a member of Briar Street Baptist Church in Springfield.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edward, Hershel, Roy, and Ray Gene; and a sister, Louise Banks.
Survivors include: his wife Margaret; his sister, Betty; his children, Beverly Ann and husband Chuck, Sharlene Ray, Christine Gay and husband Jack, Charles Steven and wife Eveline; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Larry Ball officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
