Charles "Charlie" Fears, 82, of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on November 6, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 8, 1941, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Pete and Lois Fears, Charlie grew up in Stanford, Arkansas, where he graduated from high school before embarking on a life marked by love, service, and deep devotion to family, faith, and community.
Right out of high school, Charlie married the love of his life, Candy, after a chance meeting at a White Castle in St. Louis. The couple shared a beautiful life filled with adventure and joy—fishing, dancing, and riding motorcycles together. Soon after their wedding, Charlie attended barber school, eventually creating a local institution with “Charlie’s Barber Shop,” which he built in 1977 and ran for 48 years, becoming a cherished part of the community. Known for his warm smile, listening ear, and humble heart, Charlie’s shop was much more than a place for a haircut; it was a gathering spot and a testament to his dedication to serving others.
Charlie’s life of service extended far beyond his barbershop. He answered the call to duty by joining the U.S. Army, serving as a combat medic in Vietnam for two years, and reaching the rank of Sergeant. His bravery and compassion left an indelible impact on those he served alongside.
Charlie’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a committed member of Riverdale Baptist Church of Nixa, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the church community, embracing every opportunity to serve. His steadfast faith and selfless heart were evident in every role he undertook, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness, humility, and love for God.
An outdoorsman through and through, Charlie had a lifelong passion for being on the river, hunting, and fishing. These pursuits weren’t just hobbies; they were an integral part of who he was, a way for him to connect with nature and with others. He never missed a chance to be there for his son’s games, demonstrating the same unwavering dedication to his family as he did in all areas of his life.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Candy Fears, his son Christopher Fears (Dallas), grand children Maxwell Fears, Finley Fears, and Faith Fears, his brother Eddie Fears (Carole), his sisters Joanne Miles and Diana Smith (D.R.), as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Charlie is preceeded in death by both his parents and his beloved son Brewster Don Fears.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Riverdale Baptist Church of Nixa, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, officiated by Pastor Jamie Bilyeu.
