Charles "Charlie" Henry Easson, 70, of Springfield, Missouri left this life on May 27, 2017. Charlie battled an aggressive acute leukemia for the last 9 weeks of his life.
Charlie was born June 14th, 1946 in Joplin, MO and adopted at 6 months of age by John Gordon & Wilma Gladys (Avondet) Easson. He was a 1964 graduate of Carthage High School where he played football. He went on to play football at Missouri Southern in Joplin and later attended SMS (MSU).
Charlie married Joyce Cornelison in 1970, attaining 46 years of "blissful" marriage! (author, Joyce Easson) Charlie worked at Litton Industries, ACD for many years. Together they had 2 daughters, Jennifer Leigh Carr, 46 & Sara Jill Long, 44.
He liked to tell the story of being drafted 5 times, failing the physical each time and later joining the Missouri National Guard, serving in the early 1970's with the 1107th Helicopter Unit where he boasted of perfecting the ability of getting a 14 1/2 minute nap during his 15 minute break.
He was a dedicated reader of Louis L'Amour western novels eventually branching into other genres, but only after reading his Louis books at least 6 times each. Charlie was a lifelong, avid fisherman. For 25 years he & his fishing buddies looked forward to their annual 2 week fishing trip to Lake Guererro in Mexico. His 6 grandchildren were his pride & joy! He enjoyed countless hours fishing with them & attending their sports & school events. Each year, to celebrate 5 of our family's birthdays, Charlie caught & fried crappie for a Memorial Day fish fry. He also enjoyed many family trips to Florida's beaches which always included fishing. Charlie played adult league softball and slow pitch softball for many years beyond his prime....his motto, "never give up!" He was a devoted baseball and St. Louis Cardinals fan, always!
Charlie is survived by his wife; Joyce, his two daughters and sons-in-law; Jennifer and husband Rick Carr of Bolivar, MO, Jill and husband Erich Long of Springfield, MO; and his five grandsons and granddaughter whom he adored; Riley Charles Carr, Richard Dalton Carr, Ryan David Long, Jackson Dean Long, Sara Elaine "Lainey" Long, and Remmer Elliott Carr.
