Charles Eugene Bunnell

Charles Eugene Bunnell, 84, of Galena, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. Born to Charles and Fannie Bunnell on March 3, 1940, Charles lived a life of dedication, service, and love. 

In 1958, Charles graduated from Watts High School, where he was a proud member of the football team, displaying the tenacity and teamwork that would define his life. Pursuing his passion for education, he earned a master's in education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, in 1962. For 35 years, Charles was a beloved principal in the Joplin Elementary School District, touching countless young lives with his dedication to students and staff. After retiring from education, Charles served the community as a Deputy Sheriff for 13 years. 

Charles was a man who embraced the simple joys in life. His greatest pride was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. Married to his beloved wife Ann for 59 years, they shared a beautiful life together, celebrating their union on August 7, 1965. Their love and partnership were a beacon to all who knew them. 

An avid hunter and bass fisherman, Charles found solace and joy in the outdoors. He loved nothing more than hosting fish fries for the lake community of Stockton, bringing friends and neighbors together with his generous spirit and love for good food.  

Charles joined the Catholic Church in his adult years, finding faith and community that became a central part of his life. 

Charles lived through the devastation of the famous Joplin Tornado, a testament to his resilience and strength. His life was marked by service, faith, and family—a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by: his wife Ann Bunnell; two daughters Tammy Bunnell (Shannon) and Pam Robertson (Lonnie); four grandchildren Cameron Robertson, Laney Humble, Chase Robertson and Kelby Humble; two sisters Fama and Betty; and a niece Donna Rhue (Reggie)

Charles is preceded in death by his parents.  

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m.,Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Very Reverand Shoby M. Chettiyath officiating. A Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri.
