Catherine Craig Rainey was born March 12, 1914, in Stockton, MO, the daughter of Williamson Edward and Lillie Akard Craig.
She graduated from Stockton High School in 1931. In 1937 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, MO. One summer vacation was spent in Denver University earning graduate credit. She taught in Stockton, Ozark, and Springfield Central High, retiring from Central in 1979.
During World War II she spent her summers working at recruiting typists and stenographers for the Civil Service, as well as working in a stenographic pool in the Office of War Information in Washington D.C. and teaching WAVES shorthand at Oklahoma A and M.
On July 21, 1946 Catherine and Homer C. Rainey were united in marriage. Catherine had grown up as an only child and always enjoyed and appreciated Homer's family.
Catherine was preceded in death by two brothers before her birth, her husband, Homer, in 1994, and her son, Kent Rainey, in 2017.
Survivors include their two children: Joyce Rainey of the home, Craig Rainey and his wife, Mary Jo, of Ozark; five grandchildren, Kim Woolery, Josh Rainey, Carrie Rainey, Misty Thompson, and Kelsay Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Trey Rainey and Michael White. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Darla Swearengin for years of loving care.
Catherine was a member of Ozark First Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the Mary Martha Sunday School Class for many years and participated in the music program.
Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, October 27, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Rev. Jim Jeffries officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home.
