Carroll Peter “Sonny” Sissell, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
Sonny was born January 9, 1939 in San Benito, Texas to Carroll Patterson and Lois Dee Lawton Sissell. The family moved to Gainesville, Missouri in 1949. They eventually settled in Nixa, Missouri where they owned and operated a country store and garage. Sonny served in the Missouri National Guard at West Plains, Missouri. He joined the United States Navy in 1956 at the Moffett Naval Air Station and served three years as an Airman in company M140 Infantry.
After working at several vocations, he joined the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Association. His work took him to missile bases, refiners, power dams, in several states and the Old St. Louis Baseball Stadium, the Alaska Pipe Line and a sugar mill in Africa and one in Texas.
He enjoyed hunting in Colorado and road trips in the western states; he especially enjoyed ocean cruises. Sonny accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of nine. He joined the North Nixa Baptist Church in 2005 where he joyfully and faithfully served.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Carroll, his parents Carroll and Lois Devee, a sister, Mary Crandell, son-in-law, Stan Lawson, his first wife, Jeanie Tarr, and brother-in-law, Aaron Pruett. He is survived by his wife Glenda of the home, sisters Bonnie Pruett of Seymour, Missouri, Martha Stone and husband Charles of Kansas, brother James and wife Myra of Nixa, step children Rick Tarr and wife Sandra, Ron Tarr and wife Marge, Shirley Lawson, David Chambers and wife Nancy, Tim Chambers and wife Laura, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions maybe given to North Nixa Baptist Youth Department.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
Sonny will be laid to rest at 10 am on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
