Carla Jo Smith was born on March 30, 1951 in Muskogee, OK to Carl A. and Zelma Smith.
Carla graduated from Muskogee High School in 1969. She graduated from St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. Since becoming a registered nurse, Carla worked in multiple areas of nursing and she finished the last 10 years of her career in psychiatric care.
Carla married Larry Halverson on May 27, 1973 and during this marriage adopted her two daughters, Nicole Electa Halverson in 1980 and Natalie Faust Halverson in 1982.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carl Arthur and Zelma Mae Smith, cousin Stephanie Smith, and brother in law Gary Owen.
Carla is survived by her two daughters, the lights of her life, Nicole Holman and Natalie Walmsley of Springfield, MO and son in law TJ Holman. She is also survived by one brother, Don Smith and his wife Paulette of Fort Worth, TX and three sisters, Barbara Coleman of Fort Worth, TX, Tanya Owen of Brattleboro, VT, and Lecty Fream of Tempe, AZ. Carla also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Carla is survived by countless friends and acquaintances whose lives she touched and who were able to share in her zest for life. Her infectious laughter and bright smile will be remembered by many.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 3, 2013, at South Street Christian Church in Springfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Carla may be made to: National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwest Missouri, 1701 S. Campbell Ave. Springfield, Missouri 65807. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
