Burk Alan Day

Burk A. Day, 63, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 25, 2017, at his residence in Fremont Hills with his wife Tina at his side. Burk was born in Lawrence, Kansas on January 4, 1954, the son of Joyce S. and Fred H. Day. He grew up in Dodge City, Kansas, and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1972. He subsequently attended Dodge City Community College for pottery classes, proving himself a skilled potter of natural talent. His pottery was displayed in the Kansas State Capital and is cherished by his family to this day. In 1983, Burk moved his family from Dodge City, Kansas to Ozark, Missouri, with the dream of starting his own business. Shortly thereafter, in 1984, he founded Heavy Duty Rebuilders Supply, Inc., a company he grew to become a worldwide supplier of used diesel engines and parts. Under his guidance and leadership, Heavy Duty grew to be an industry leader and is still a thriving business today. Burk was a true entrepreneur with a strong work ethic and a savvy business sense. He retired in 2010, selling the business to his son Derek and a longtime employee and dear friend Jeff Watts. Burk is survived by his wife, Tina Gunnels-Day and her parents, brother, children, and grandchildren; a son, Derek A. Day and wife Michelle Day of Nixa, Missouri; a daughter Shelbi D. Day and wife Jennifer Egelseer of Portland, Oregon; a sister, Lynn Roenfeldt and her husband Richard of Dodge City, Kansas; three brothers, Tom Day and his wife Robbye of Red Wing, Minnesota, Larry Day of Wittmann, Arizona, and Jeff Day and his wife Melissa of Wichita, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Kelby Day, Ella Day, Alexandra Egelseer-Day, and Gabriel Egelseer-Day; and, his beloved uncle Barry Salsbury and wife Marguerite of Larkspur, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his birth father, Raymond Bodin. Memorial service will be held at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark, Missouri, on Thursday July 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Brad Wicks presiding.
