Beverly Mae (Dunlap) Hizer Turner, age 85 of Nixa, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She was born to Jack Dunlap and LaVergna Chester Dunlap on November 18, 1930 in Harrison, NE.
Beverly lived in Harrison and attended high school there, graduating in 1948. She met her husband Clyde Hizer when he returned home from WWII, and they were married on June 5, 1949. Clyde worked as a ranch hand, and Bev and Clyde lived on several ranches in Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming, before moving to Ft. Robinson, NE with their four children. Bev loved everything about Ft. Robinson, and after moving around a lot, she always called it 'home'. It not only was a beautiful place to live, but a great place to raise a family.
Beverly and Clyde moved to Clay Center, NE in 1972 where she worked as a florist. They later lived on a ranch near Valentine, NE and eventually back to Clay Center, where Clyde retired. Clyde passed away in 1992.
Beverly met John Turner and they later married in June, 1996. They lived in Lincoln, NE, where she volunteered at Food Net. Bev and John later moved to Nixa, MO, spending many hours volunteering at Least of These. Bev attended Aldersgate Methodist Church.
Beverly is survived by her four children, Sherry and Ken Colwell of Columbia, MO; Chuck Hizer and partner Randall Zwik of Evanston, IL; Jay Hizer of Sierra Vista, AZ; and Brad Hizer and wife Suzanne of San Diego, CA. She has 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren from her marriage to Clyde Hizer. Bev is also survived by stepson Robert Turner and wife Tanya of Nixa, and David Turner of Omaha, NE. She has 3 step-grandchildren from her marriage to John Turner. Bev has one surviving sibling, sister Roberta Engebretsen of Washington, NC.
The family will hold a memorial service Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Aldersgate Methodist Church, 460 W. Aldersgate Dr. in Nixa. Visitation is at 1:00 p.m. and the service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Least of These, 511 Kathryn St., Nixa, MO 65714.
