"Betty" Elizabeth Lucille Maples

September 16, 1935 — May 22, 2022

“Betty” Elizabeth Lucille Maples, 86, of Nixa, MO left us on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022. Betty left behind her son, Chris (wife Susan) Maples, of Schell City, MO. Brother, Evan (wife Jane) Copsey of Maitland, MO. Stepbrother, Kirk (wife Pam) Copsey of California. Stepbrother Reese Evan Copsey of California. One sister-in-law, Linda Gamble of Yuma, AZ. One brother-in-law, Larry Maples, of Yuma, AZ. Granddaughter, Holly (husband Zac) Stevens and great-granddaughter Emberly, of Nixa, MO, granddaughter Lexie (husband Jonathan) Spivey and great-grandchildren Renner, Korbie, Cohen, Blaine, and Wiley, of Arkansas, granddaughter Kiley Chastain, great granddaughter Natalie, great granddaughter Ellie, great-great grandson Frankie, step grandson, Phil (wife Chelsey) Reed of Cottonwood, MN. Several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends.

Betty taught 1st grade at Mark Twain Elementary for many years. Even after her retirement Betty spent several summers with her son Chris working for NW Communications in Rich Hill, MO. Betty was an active member of several organizations including Christian County Democratic Party, the Ozark Mountain Gem & Mineral Society, and the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary 4262. Betty and her lifelong friend, Dorothy Doering, enjoyed shopping, wine tasting, and traveling. She never passed a rock that she didn’t want to scoop up and take home with her, no matter the size. Betty was a planner and always made sure everyone had their sack lunch packed that included a crunchy peanut butter and dill pickle sandwich, which we still enjoy today. Betty was a great host and always had a smile on her face to greet company.

Betty Maples was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Maples, her parents, Evan Copsey and Belle West Copsey, son, Carey Maples and wife Denise Maples, and step sister-in-law, Ceil Copsey.

In leu of flowers the family asks for contributions to be made to the Edythe West Endowed Scholarship Fund at Drury University in care of Adam’s Funeral Home Nixa, MO.

Cremation rites have been entrusted to Adams Crematory. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
