Bela Alex Szendrey, age 92, of Ozark, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in his home. He was born May 12, 1925 in Budapest, Hungary, the son of Alex and Maria Szendrey. Bela came to the United States in 1950 as a refugee. He was a tailor for most of his life. Bela was an accomplished Opera Singer. While in Hollywood, Bela sang with Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams. He also played the violin.
On September 5, 1981, he and his wife, Maria, were married. They moved to Ozark to be with their children and grandchildren. He worked for Men's Wearhouse in Springfield after moving to the area.
Bela was a kind and generous man. He enjoyed gift giving, and loved his family always.
Survivors include: His wife, Maria; five children, Julia Blom and David of Dallas, TX, Daniel Szendrey of Camarillo, CA, Roger Szendrey and Darlene of Los Angeles, CA; John Keeter of Springfield, and Emma Fratti of Ozark; seven grandchildren, Mitchell, Diana, Ryan, Nikki, Johnny, Kenzie, and Millie; and a sister, Otilia of Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alex Szendrey, and a daughter Luz Angelica Fratti.
A memorial service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 30, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
