Our beloved mom, nana and great grandma, Barbara Jean Thomasson, passed away with family by her side on October 12, 2024 at the age of 85.
She was born to the late Francis Henry and Dorothea Elizabeth (Wilk) McCune on August 19, 1939 in Leavenworth, KS. When she was 17 years old she met the love of her life, James A. Thomasson Jr. and they married on November 2, 1957. He proceeded her in death on January 11, 2011 after 53 years of marriage.
Barbara “Barb” spent all her life (48 years) as a nurse/physician’s assistant at clinics and St John’s hospital in Leavenworth, KS. They traveled on and off during their early marriage to Thailand and Hawaii. She has fond memories of their travels and spoke about Thailand often. She and dad retired in the early 2000’s, sold their home and moved to Kimberling City, MO to have lazy days on Table Rock Lake. They spent several years there before her husband’s passing and then Barbara moved closer to her family in Ozark, MO.
She was so very proud of her children (James Thomasson III and Danielle Thomasson, both of Ozark MO) and grandchildren, Jaymz C. Thomasson, Kristofer A. Vickers and Julian T. Hawkins. She was blessed and was so grateful to see two of her great granddaughters born, Amara and Aurea Thomasson who always made her smile and she asked about daily. She would do anything for her family and had the most beautiful soul, always worried about her family all the way to the very end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Mary Powers, Gayle Meredith, Dorothea Timmons, and brother Francis “Buddy boy” McCune.
She is survived by her daughter, Danielle L. Thomasson (and her wife Rebecca Pollard) Ozark MO, James A. Thomasson III (and his partner Shane Lipe) Ozark, MO. Her grandsons Jaymz C. Thomasson (and his wife Taylor Thomasson), Kristofer A. Vickers (and his girlfriend Grace O’Rourke), and Julian T. Hawkins. Her great granddaughters, Amara R. Thomasson and Aurea B. Thomasson. Her last surviving sibling, Shirley Morris.
From her grandson Jaymz Thomasson: To my Grandma youwere a mother, a friend, and my nana. Some of my best and most memorable memories were with you, a memory that always will be with me was when my brother and I would go down to your house in the summer, and grandpa would take us fishing and you would have sandwiches made for us when we returned. I am going to miss our calls on Thursday after I got off work, and the laughs we shared on those when you would tell me “another day, another dollar” when I would say I was glad the week was almost over. You being so involved in my life from an early stage helped shape me to be the best version of myself. I can rest easily knowing you are back with the love of your life and you are without pain. I will love you forever, and I will always be your pooh-man.
She was very grateful for her nurses and “bath nurse” Brooke at Intrepid Hospice who made her final year with us comfortable and full of laughs.
Per her wishes, she will be buried with her husband at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in the Spring of 2025. Family will celebrate her life with several dinners at her favorite places to eat. She requested no funeral services and just asked that her family be together and remember all the fond memories and laughs. We will all miss her terribly until we all are together again.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark and cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
