Barbara Ann Brown, 77, died June 13, 2022 in Cibolo, Texas surrounded by her beloved children.
Barbara was born to John and Alma Cates on Sept. 20, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield, MO in 1962, then earned a degree in early childhood education from Southwest Missouri State in 1966. On Nov. 6, 1970, she married the love of her life, Hal Joseph Brown of Springfield. As newlyweds, they loved dancing, camping and afternoons with family on the lake onboard the pontoon boat. She cherished family gatherings and reunions with her extended family. Barbara taught in Springfield Public Schools for 30 years. Early in her career, she taught blind and partially sighted students, followed by years teaching 3rd to 5th grades.
After she retired, Barbara couldn’t stop – she worked at the Aurora Public Library for nearly 15 more years, sharing her love of books with the community. Barbara always had a project: either a book, antique-hunting or sewing. Her quilts were works of art. Even in the months before her death, Barbara had a weekly sewing session via zoom with dear friends.
She is survived by three children, Carol Jennifer Terhune (Kevin Kreger) of Virginia; Richard Joseph Brown (Elizabeth Lewis) of Springfield; Lisa Ann Mobley (Lucas Mobley) of Cibolo, Texas; and a grandson, Jaxson Conrad Mobley of Cibolo; and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Charles, and sister, Louise.
