Avaline T. Harris

Avaline T. Harris, age 86, entered into rest on Thursday June 30, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri.

 

Avaline True was born on September 13, 1935, in Tunas, Missouri to the late Roy and Bethel (Owensby) True. She graduated from Tunas High School in 1953. She then attended Drury University, graduating Summa Cum Laude when she received her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a special education teacher at Chadwick High School. She began her teaching career in 1968. She retired in 2000 but continued to help in the school as a substitute until 2010. She loved to teach. She also found great joy watching children perform any talents.

 

On September 10, 1954, Avaline was united in marriage to James Harris. Together they had one son, James Marcus Harris. Together, Avaline and James owned and operated Harris Feed in Chadwick for many years.

 

Avaline loved her community, she was a member of the Eastern Star, Chadwick PTO, Chadwick Friendship Club, Chadwick Historical Society, Chadwick Museum, and the Christian County Museum. Avaline was quick to donate her time to the community and organizations that she believed in. She also was a 20-gallon donor at the Community Blood Bank Center. Avaline was a dedicated member of the Southland Christian Church.

 

Avaline was preceded by her parents, husband James Harris, son James Marcus “Markie”Harris, sibilings Chrystal Melton, Wayne True, Daryl True, niece Thresa  Reed, and dear friend Dennie Brown. She is survived by her best friend Huba Rozell, brother Bertram True, nieces Lyddia Kelm, Jeanine True, Sarah Mulligan, Danika True, nephews John Melton, Steve Melton, Ryan True, Roy True, great nieces Michaela Thomson, Rhiannon Hood, Erika Kelm, Kasey Kelm,Claire Mulligan, great nephews Billy Stokes, James Mulligan, great-great nieces Kaitlynd Hassinger, Kadyn stokes, Michaela Avaline Chickvary, great-great nephews Elijah Chickvary, Logan Stokes, Malachi Abreu, great-great-great nephews Ezekiel Chickvary, Lucas Chickvary, and Matthew Chickvary,

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Avaline will be laid to rest in Chadwick Memorial Cemetery.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
