Anne A. Appleby, 90, died December 14, 2017. She was born October 18, 1927 in Ozark, the youngest child of Nels and Lucile Anderson, and lived most of her life in Ozark and Springfield. Her parents and older brother, Nels, preceded her in death. While a student at Drury College, she met classmate Sam Appleby, Jr. who had just returned from service in the Army during World War II. They were married at Stone Chapel, Drury College, and honeymooned in Mexico City, traveling there and back on their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Sam also preceded her in death resulting from an airplane accident August 10, 1985. She was engaged in retail business for a number of years, and was selected as the Alabama Business Woman of the year for managing a hospital gift shop during the years she lived in Foley, AL.
She was very active until the last two months of her life, and loved to travel and play bridge. She enjoyed her participation, and resulting friendships, in several organizations, including: Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Union Veterans, PEO, the Saturday Club and several bridge groups.
She is survived by three children: son David Appleby and wife Raylene, daughter Judy Moskoff and husband Mike, and daughter Peggy Auvil and husband Tom; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and many friends.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Monday, December 18, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial will follow in Weaver Cemetery, Ozark. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Monday until service time.
