Alice Olinda Hobus was welcomed into Heaven on December 21, 2020. After enjoying 93 years of earthly life, she took the hand of Jesus and went home to Him, her lifelong Savior.
Alice was born to Adelheidt and Erwin Jacobsmeyer in Olmsted, Illinois on February 7, 1927.
She married Robert Hobus, a Lutheran minister, on July 10, 1949 and they celebrated 59 years of marriage before his passing.
Dedicated to her faith, Alice raised four sons, always creating a loving Christian home as the
family moved across the Midwest over the years. She was gracious and warm, easily making
friends across the states. Alice was gentle and genuine but wielded enough spunk to stop anyone from underestimating her. Her willingness to join any adventure sent her huckleberry picking in the Montana mountains, beachcombing in California, and camel-riding at the pyramids in Egypt.
While she loved traveling, Alice was also content to stay close to home where she would often
be found poring over her Bible, adding touches of color to a painting, or immersing herself in a
new book. Many of her last months were spent relaxing in her own home where she kept an
abundance of pictures, cards, and letters from loved ones nearby to lovingly reread and admire.
Perhaps the most memorable aspect of Alice was her unwavering faith in Jesus. He strengthened her to face life's challenges with confidence and grace. Thusly, she was a model for her children and grandchildren, and she will always be remembered as a petite but powerful lady, and a humble but mighty matriarch to her family.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harold, her sister, Ruth, her husband,
Robert, a grandson, Matthew, and a daughter-in-law, Angela.
Alice is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Hobus of Jacksonville, Texas, David
and Barbara Hobus of Kalispell, Montana, Steven and Mary Hobus of Atchison, Kansas, and
Michael and Donna Hobus of Nixa, Missouri. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ryan
and his wife Priscilla, Joy, Jacob and his fianc Alex, Paul and his wife Alyssa, Micah and his
wife Melanie, Amanda and her husband Brian, Andrew and his wife Nicole, Isaiah and his wife
Erica, Amber, and Kevin and his wife Hannah. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, January 7, from 5:00-7:00 at Redeemer Lutheran
Church in Nixa. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, January 8 at 10:00 at the church. Committal will be at Hopedale Cemetery in Ozark, following the service.
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ
Jesus. Philippians 3:14
